Lessons
Lesson Policy: Lessons are offered in time slots of 30, 45, and 60-minute sessions. A 30-minute session is recommended for younger students starting off on the instrument. It is suggested that students provide availability and pick a mutually beneficial time for weekly meeting upon contact. Some days may be preferred over others depending on location. I come to your home to provide lessons. Availability is not guaranteed depending on studio space, but lessons are offered on a first come first serve basis.
Depending on prior cancellations I reserve the right to offer earlier time slots to scheduled students. Offerings of early times do not need to be taken if it’s not feasible.
Elements of playing emphasized in lessons include Technique, Theory, Ear Training, Improvisation, Sight Reading, Performance, Practice Methodology, Critical Thinking, and Intuition—how to truly feel the music and then translate that to an audience.
Cancellations: Cancellations within 24-hours without an emergency situation will cost the client half the price of their session to be payed at the next lesson that occurs. I am understanding of circumstances, however I kindly ask that you please try your best not to cancel on consistent basis. 24-hour notice of cancellation is free of charge as it provides me ample time to schedule other students in that slot.
Additional Materials: A majority of our sheet music and materials can be accessed completely free courtesy of the IMSLP music database. Consult me for any other materials that may be needed and I can provide guidance. Manuscript paper is a necessity for all students and can be found on amazon for under 10 dollars. Notes are to be taken down by myself during lessons that provide a steady track of theoretical progress for each student. It also will keep track of homework for the week. I also provide recommendations for formal books and editions if preferred.
NYSSMA: Students and families are encouraged to participate in their local NYSSMA festival—on a yearly basis. Students will work with me to choose a suitable piece for preparation. Scales and sight reading are skills we practice regularly in tandem with technical exercises or etudes. All students will receive a judge copy of their piece. Experience with all levels— I to VI.
Starter Instruments: If you’re just starting off with the piano and need an instrument, I can provide a multitude of recommendations to match an extremely reasonable and fair price range. Consult me if needed.
Acoustic Instrument Tuning: currently not offered, I am in the process of learning that skill to offer this as a service for acoustic pianos—uprights, and grands. That being said, I can provide recommendations for suitable accommodations and instrument repairs across both acoustic and electric instruments!
